Labour Community Training Collaborations for IEP's and Immigrants

Labour and community-based agencies that are providing access to workplace training for immigrants and internationally educate workers

The purpose of this project was to explore partnerships between labour and community-based agencies that are providing access to workplace training and learning opportunities for immigrants and internationally educated/trained workers.

This is a knowledge exchange project in which the final results will be shared among different stakeholder groups including the networks of the Labour Education Centre, the Toronto Workforce Innovation Group (formerly Toronto Training Board), the Canadian Labour Congress and other labour, business and community networks.

The project builds on two initiatives supported by the Work and Learning Knowledge Centre; “Integrating Equity, Addressing Barriers: Innovative Learning Practices by Unions" and the February 28th Roundtable: “Integrating Equity and Addressing barriers in Education and Training: In the Workplace, In the Union”.

The project was designed to meet the following objectives:

  • To understand how these collaborations are funded
  • To learn if these programs benefit the union or the agency
  • To identify best practices related to these training/learning partnerships
